Hi my Name is

GERRY

I've Been Here Since: 2012-05-04
DOB: Nov 1st 2007 (approx)
Gender: Male
Size: Big German Shepherd Size

My Behavior:

When you go to look at a house for rent, the norm is to check out the bedrooms, see if the carpeting is clean, etc.  Well in our case, we had traveled out to a quaint little river town about an hour outside of New Orleans to rent a little place.  When we entered, yes indeed the carpets were clean but this house also came with its very own German Shepherd.  Apparently the former tenant had been evicted and due to finances and nowhere to go, left his dog behind.  So it was like a sign.  I mean how many rentals come with their own dog?  So Gerry remains with us now and is looking for his "own rental".       Here is a video of Gerry in action: http://youtu.be/LIwreZ0QeEc          He is VERY well trained and knows most of his basic obedience.  He is EXCELLENT in the house and completely house broken and crated trained.  But like many Shepherds he does have that "protective" nature at times so any potential adopters need to be aware of this.  He does have to be the only animal in the home and because of his "protectiveness" we need him to go an adult home.  Don't get me wrong he is very very friendly but…when in his home or car, he is aware of what is going on around him and just wants to keep things in order. He also LOVES LOVES LOVES his toys and to play ball. He also likes to butt into your phone conversations and we swear he understands human talk.  Gerry is an absolute goofball and is so entertaining.  This is one awesome dog!!!

Help Support one of our Dogs

We have so many dogs that could use a little help to not only get them through each day but also help the non-profit keep our doors open. You can either pick one of our PIT PALS or pick a dog from our DOGS FOR ADOPTION. Remember, by doing this, you can come out and visit your sponsored Pit Bull in person and spend the day together. Be that special person in their life and show them that someone cares more about them, than the former owner who dumped them here. Help us, to help them. He sounds exactly like my GSD. I’ve had three of them, and they are WONDERFUL dogs. He’s a best friend someone will be happy to bring into his or her life! Oh, and he probably CAN understand your conversations. :)

Oh My Goodness…this dog is beautiful. I am very partial to German Shepherds. We bred them in Germany and gave them to the police academy…I was 11 when we moved to the United States and for the past 33 years I have longed to have my very own German Shepherd…I finally got one from a back yard breeder to save this lil girl…I got to spend a year and a half with her before I had to put her down because her kidneys failed her…this was three months ago…I swore I would never have another dog because my heart is crushed over her loss…then I see Gerry and I have seen him on your show, but seeing him on this web site made me realize my heart needs another dog…I am so ready. I live in Sioux City, Iowa, so I am sure I would not be able to get Gerry because I cannot afford to fly there and see him…I do send prayers up the Lord though for you all and all your beautiful dogs!! God bless you and I thank you from the deepest parts of my heart for what you are doing…God is so proud of you all!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

On Facebook, there is a German Shepherd Community page. Everyone on this page is a German Shepherd nut. Membership is not limited to a state. If you can get them to post your German shepherd adoptees, you would be able to reach knowledgeable handlers. I would take Gerry but I have three Germans now and I am in SC so a home visit is out of the question. I hope he finds a home though. Good luck.

Have you looked into German Shepard rescues for him? Yes, it is sort of passing him off to another rescue, but people that want his breed go directly to those rescues, and most of them don’t require them to be pure bred with papers. Just look the part so to speak, and I’d say Gerry is actually a very good looking GS! Good luck to you Gerry!

Got something to say?
