Mr. Wilson’s Chains

His name is Mr. Wilson and despite having such a strong name, his life has been nothing but neglect and pain.  A few days ago we got a 911 email from a woman in a rural part of Louisiana, pleading for help for a dog chained up behind her home.  A "friend" had gone to jail for a very violent crime and he literally chained and staked his dog into the ground to ask her to "take care of him".  The chain was so heavy that Mr. Wilson couldn't lift his head off of the ground.   Mr. Wilson's caretaker was too scared to say anything but she finally pleaded with his owner to at least put a smaller weighted chain on him.  For a short time she tried her best to take care of him with limited funds and 3 Pit Bulls of her own.  Finally she couldn't take it anymore and she gathered up her courage and called us to come and set Mr. Wilson free.

We arrived and were heartbroken at what we saw.  A chain so heavy that I could barely pick it up.  His spine was hunched and his legs bowed, probably from years on this heavy chain.  The once leather collar had hardened into what felt like petrified wood and we had to use bolt cutters to cut it off of his neck because the chain was too thick.  And despite all of this, Mr. Wilson was happy and so grateful for all we had done.  He ran around the grass and peed on every bush, of course in between licks and hugs.  Barely able to see out of his infected eyes, he still mananged to run to our van and practically jump in to a warm crate with lots of clean blankets.  But what Mr. Wilson needs now is a sponsor to help with his vet bills and what he would love more than anything at this time is his very own dog house/igloo.  Not only has this big ole lug of a dog never had a kind hand to pet his head or slept indoors, but to have a real dog house of his own and filled with fluffy blankets, would give him such happiness.

Because we have taken in so many dogs since arriving in New Orleans, we are completely out of dog houses/igloos.  Any help towards sponsoring this very special dog would be so appreciated.  Once healthy, he is going to make someone a very special companion.  And though we have many special dogs here……a pooch like Mr. Wilson only comes around once in a lifetime.

This story saddens me so much! I have a pit bull of my own who has never seen even five minutes on a chain outside…I can’t imagine doing that to such a sweet animal. I live in Ohio, where we no longer get the label of vicious dog because of our breed. YAY!!!!!! If I could give him a furever home I would. The best I can do is spread his story and say a prayer for him and all of you. I hope it is enough for now. I am so proud of the work you do and someday hope to join you in helping these wonderful animals. For now I simply foster for the Humane Society. God Bless.

    Hi,

I’m a New Orleans transplant who ended up in San Francisco where I currently reside. I take trips home fairly frequently and would love to meet Mr. Wilson sometime in November, provided he’s still there. Hopefully he’ll have a good home by then tho. But untill then, I would be honored to help this sweet boy out. How much do one of those igloos cost? If you could provide me some info regarding his needs, I would be happy to sponsor him as much as I can.

    For the love of pitties,
    Tina Q.

  11. Cindy Durant on May 17th, 2012 11:16 pm

Tia, you and your organization are so amazing. I love your show and was so sorry to see you leave CA. Sounds like the need is so much greater for you where you are. I used to be afraid of Pit Bulls even though I know enough to know that animals are usually only mean if they are brought up that way. Watching your show has certainly changed my mind. God bless you all for helping Mr. Wilson and that kind woman who called you. Much love and blessings to you and your family including your fur babies.

  12. molly on May 17th, 2012 11:17 pm

that man deserves to go to jail for what he did to that poor animal! i could never do something like that to my pitts! it amazes me the reputation they have when most cases they are just greatful to have a family that loves them and a chew toy! :P if i had the money i would sponsor him! i hope he gets everything he needs and deserves for going through such agony!

  13. Shelley Cuthbert on May 17th, 2012 11:17 pm

This is sick what they did to Mr. Wilson. I just donated $100 dollars in the General Donations Could you please make sure you buy Mr. Wilson a proper dog house with blankets and use the remaining to help with his food?

    Thanks
    Shelley

  14. Sharla on May 17th, 2012 11:18 pm

I have had the pleasure of owning several pit bulls over the years and would NEVER dream of being so cruel and callous. I am heartbroken over my last one; Diamond. The BEST dog I have ever owned, and I have had several different breeds but the pit is by far the TOP dog. They are loyal, loving, and true to those that treat and train them right!! I would give my love to another one in a heartbeat! They will always have my love and my heart!

  15. Christina King on May 17th, 2012 11:20 pm

Bless you and your family and those that work with you. Now this sweet boy has a chance at a good home. He looks so much better already. I wish I could take them all in myself. We are so lucky to have you in the South. California’s loss is our gain.

  16. Renea Guillory on May 17th, 2012 11:22 pm

OMG. I don’t understand how people can be so cruel. Bless the person who called y’all and bless y’all for rescueing him.

  21. Colleen Kristick on May 17th, 2012 11:26 pm

Oh my god. How can some people be so stupid and cruel. I hope the “friend” has a long, miserable stay in prision. Still won’t be as bad as what he put this innocent dog through.

  22. Lori Porter on May 17th, 2012 11:26 pm

Tia, Mr. Wilson is one lucky pup to have you as his guardian angel! No dog should have to suffer the way this poor boy did. WTH is wrong with people? I honestly prefer to be around animals than humans. Way to go Tia and the Villalobos Crew!!!

  23. clint on May 17th, 2012 11:26 pm

What a peice of shit… I hope they throw the book at that mother f*@ker… U tell alot about a person on the way they treat their animals… Either way.. Looks like hes boutta get a taste of his own medicine… Karmas a bitch and it looks like she already struck that asshole…

  24. amber on May 17th, 2012 11:27 pm

That is kinda sad. People make choices and sometimes they are not good then others are left to try to help. This dog seems like a sweet heart, and it seems like he only had a chain that big because the original owner was trying to prove something. I hope this big guy finds a great home.

  25. Linnea on May 17th, 2012 11:30 pm

Beyond discusting…Thank God for you guys and everything you do.
    Much love from VT <3

  26. Kris Chapin on May 17th, 2012 11:30 pm

Bless the neighbor/friend for standing up for Mr Wilson! I continue to be shocked by the number of people who have these wonderful dogs yet treat them so badly. I know for my pits (both have now passed away) they wanted nothing more than to be with me, to be acknowledged, loved, played with & included. To chain a dog with that natural desire to please is the same as starving it to death. Worse, possibly. I wish I had the means to adopt him but we have two 12 week old German Shepherds currently being trained as my husband’s service dog, or “PTSD” dogs. Once they are trained we plan to adopt a pit (for me!) but right now we have to focus on these two chewing and barking machines! I will, however, send some money to help get Mr Wilson a dogloo or whatever suits him best! Please give him a big hug from me!

  27. Becky Williams on May 17th, 2012 11:30 pm

The owner of this dog should be made to wear this chain around for a month ..24/7 to see how it feels. This brings tears to my eyes every time I see a story like this. I always wonder why people have dogs if they just tie them up in the back yard. I have 2 pits that have never, and will never, know what a chain is. I hope this dog goes to a good home with someone with a huge back yard so he can run his little butt off for the rest of his life. If I wasn’t so far away I would take him!

  28. Deborah Vincenti on May 17th, 2012 11:30 pm

I just want to say thank you to all of you

  29. Megan sandoval on May 17th, 2012 11:31 pm

This is so heartbreaking and makes me so angry!!! I would like to help anyway I can, so if it’s an igloo you need you got it. I live in California so if there is a local Petsmart or anything over there I will gladly get a gift certificate and mail it to you. Please let me know. I think what you guys are doing is amazing and wish there were more people like you in the world.

  30. Allegra on May 17th, 2012 11:31 pm

How can we get the igloo to you? What size is needed? How much needs to go toward his vet bills right now?

  31. Tracy on May 17th, 2012 11:31 pm

That is just horrible… i want to bring all these dogs home and spoil each and every one of them!

  32. Dani Douglas on May 17th, 2012 11:32 pm

I am so sorry Mr. Wilson!!! I am sorry that you had to live that life. I am sorry that so many people mistreat your beautiful breed!!! You are in good hands now and will finally know what it feels like to be loved.

  33. Marcia Hill on May 17th, 2012 11:32 pm

God, I hate seeing a dog chained, never knowing what it’s like to run free and just be a dog! came to see you at your open house–thanks for all you do. I’ve been involved in rescue/foster for years and it’s so gratifying to make a difference in an animal’s life.

  34. Judy on May 17th, 2012 11:35 pm

Bless you for rescuing Mr. Wilson. I am ashamed of Tehachapis’ response to your request for a sanctuary. NIMBY at its’ worst. Louisiana, rejoice!

I have a large dog Igloo that Mr. Wilson can have. I live in Lafayette, LA and could bring it. Just let me know if needed by the weekend, otherwise I will bring it along with another dog house (not an Igloo though) that you may be able to use as soon as I can. I am sure you will need them no matter what.

I hurt for these animals i wish i could be there for all of them.. So many people in this world do not deserve animals at all. The animals are way to good for them… So many of these people are lucky they are not dealing with me. i have many pit bull in my yard and most of them here since their birth. the county i live in has no leash laws but the police department has forced me to put many of my babies on chains. i have really big pitbulls but never in my life have i seen a chain this big for a dog. this is crule to the extream. some of my babies are rescues that i adopt out to good homes and some are just pets. yes i have them on chains that i wish i could set them free of, but i do bring one in the house a week to have a week stay in my home and them i swap out to the next baby in the yard. this way they all get their own one on one time with me and time off the chain, so they know they have not been forgoten and that they are always loved. to see something like this just makes my heart cry out in pain. people that do such thing should have to be made to carry that chain for the rest of their lives to see how it feels. i am so glad that yall stepped in and took this baby home to be free. i love what yall do and hope to help in some way myself one day. pitbulls have such a bad name everywhere and it is always nice to see people stepping up and speaking out for them. they need love just like any other pet, because thats all they are is a big loving pet and should be veiwed as such not put on tractor trailor chains and threw in the yard as a lawn toy. i love you guys and lve what you do. keep up the good work.

  42. Suzy on May 18th, 2012 12:01 am

I am so very excited to see that Tia and her group are still helping these pits who cant help themselves…When will people learn that 4 legged friends have feelings too and deserve to be loved???
Keep up the fight Tia, until they don’t need you too any more…

  43. Debbie Eilers on May 18th, 2012 12:03 am

Regarding Mr. Wilson, where can I send a check!

    Debbie Eilers

  44. Becky Bibey Caddell on May 18th, 2012 12:10 am

Poor Mr. Wilson! I will never, ever understand why a person gets a pet just to cage or chain them up and not give them another thought. It makes me so angry! They aren’t lawn ornaments or weapons and they def. aren’t punching bags! Don’t get a dog if you cant or wont properly care for him! I am so happy you guys got Mr. Wilson out of that Hell Hole he was in…he deserves so much better! I know we cant save them all, but every time I read about 1 being saved I look at my 2 rescues, both from the same high kill shelter…1 was 8 weeks old a day away from being put down, the other was a “stray”bull terrier on 72 hour hold who was starved, beaten and shot as well as having an infection in her shot wound and another infection in her stomach getting no medical care, and am so thankful for them and get angry all over again at the evil humans in the world that threat these babies like they are less than nothing. My bully never leaves my side and if I shut her out of the bathroom to shower even, she has panic attacks worrying that something is going to happen to me because she isnt there to watch over me. I have MS and there for have severe have chronic fatigue syndrome. I can sleep 18 hours a day…she’s right there sleeping with me and if she thinks something is wrong with the way I’m sleeping, she will nudge me and paw me until I wake up and acknowledge her. Dogs are so special and they know what’s going on with you even when you don’t. Treat them like family…not garbage!

  45. Lori Wenzel on May 18th, 2012 12:32 am

Thank God you got him Tia, that sick m-fer that did that to poor Mr Wilson should be done away with. I have 3 dogs and 3 cats that are all rescues with horrible stories behind them and it makes me sick to my soul I can’t do more for them. I’m out of room! Mine are lifers here in the county and I’m at my max.

  47. Darrel Murphy on May 18th, 2012 12:37 am

It really makes me sick to see how some people treat dogs. I think everyone of them should be treated the same way.

I wish you all the best & keep up the good work.

This, like all your stories is heartbreaking to me. Yet somehow, I am moved by your amazing generosity and love for these beautiful creatures! As a pit bull owner/lover, more and more all the time I’m being drawn to somehow find a way to start-up a rescue myself. A lot of that has been inspired by Villalobos! God willing, I will find a way despite these challenging econic times. I would especially like to help with Wilson. I don’t have much, but even if it’s only $40, one way or the other I WILL be making a donation by the end of the day tomorrow. God bless you for all the amazing work you do and all the four-legged friends you save!

That is AWESOME!!! you guys do GREAT WORK!!! Keep it up!!!
    Mr. Wilson ROCKS!!!

  62. Mikayla Olson on May 18th, 2012 7:43 am

That is completely terrible what the guy did to Mr. Wilson! I don’t understand how people can do that to animals. I know pitbulls have a bad rep but the dog themselves didn’t do anything wrong it was their owners who decided to use them for what they wanted the dogs to be and not what the dogs wanted to be, a loving and loyal pet. I love pits. When I get my own place I’m going to get one. If people would just give them a chance to show how loyal, lovable, and amazing they are, people would understand. That’s my opinion and I think people need to grow up and take care of their pets like they would a child. That’s how I treat my dogs. Just give pits a chance people, I know this one pit named buddy and he is the best dog you could ever meet. He acts like he’s a lab, not what some people would call a ” man eating dog”. Once you meet a pitbull you’ll want one yourself…

  63. Sarah Dailey on May 18th, 2012 8:42 am

I just don’t understand the capacity of humans to think that this is ok. I myself have adopted 2 American Bulldogs that came from a horrible beginning and I will forever believe that they pay me back everyday day with their undevoted love. Something needs to change and laws need to be in place to punish these individuals. If they hurt an animal you can bet that they will hurt a human.

  64. Janet Zikeli on May 18th, 2012 8:51 am

Tia, You are an angel. Thank God for you. Poor Mr. Wilson. I don’t know how anyone could have expected that poor dog to even breath with that chain hanging from his neck. What were they thinking. You ought to take that chain to the jail and put it around the person’s neck, that put it on him. I commend you for all you do for the dogs. I wish I was financally able to take all abused and abandoned precious babies. Maybe one day, the Lord will give me the power to be able to fullfill my wish. Keep up your wonderful work with these beautiful creatures. I pray Mr. Wilson gets the perfect home. He very much so deserves all the love he can get. Sincerely, Janet Zikeli

A dog’s demonstrative behaivior is a measure of their enormous compassion, optimism, hope and a capacity for forgiveness that should leave us all withered with shame.

    Really?!

How do people even think about doing this do an animal? Not just Dogs, all animals. I volunteer at a Parrot rescue, and we get plucked and even /beaten/ parrots in. How do you beat something with hollow bones?
What you guys are doing out there is amazing. Good luck. I’ll be donating soon.

  75. Trish Funk on May 18th, 2012 2:57 pm

That owner is just where he belongs, in jail!!
No one has the right to treat any animal that way. My prayers are with Mr Wilson and you for rescuing him. God Bless!!!!

  76. Cathy L on May 18th, 2012 3:17 pm

So much that poor boy is going to need…I’d say it’s a given that Mr. Wilson’s never been on heartworm preventative. Heartworms are so prevalent here in the South, and this year is particularly bad. (I know of one woman who rescues dogs, and seven of the ones she has pulled from a shelter this year have turned up HW+!) Heartworm treatment is expensive. I recently heard a quote of $500 for the 3-injection treatment, so keep that in mind when you’re donating to this great rescue organization for Mr. Wilson’s and the other dogs’ care! I just wish I had the funds to help out…

Tia…I don’t know what to say. You (and your family) have my admiration and deep respect for what you do, both for the dogs and the people you help!

(Stephanie Smith [May 17th 11:58pm] – if your dogs are on chains simply because you can’t afford fencing, please contact this group: Coalition to Unchain Dogs. http://unchaindogs.net/)

  77. Joyce on May 18th, 2012 5:36 pm

Any chance we could get that collar and first chain and have his previous owner were it for a few years? Just asking? This makes me sick, I am so glad that you got him out of there. Keep up the great work

  78. Louise Cooper on May 18th, 2012 6:09 pm

Thank goodness there are people out there who love these wonderful dogs. I would love to be able to set up my own rescue centre here in the UK. Keep doing all that needs to be done. It’s the Deed not the Breed.

  79. Angela on May 18th, 2012 10:16 pm

This is so sad. I am happy something has been done. I don’t care what kind of breed no animal should be treated this way. Someone needs to weigh this man down with chains and leave him to the weather. People are the ones we need to be afraid of. This breed and others breeds as well only want to be loved. They give you back what you give them. Beautiful Mr. Wilson. I have a Pit myself. P. Pretty I. Intellegent T. Terriers.

  80. Camy on May 20th, 2012 2:22 am

I hope the former owner of this poor doggy goes to prison, but on the way there he gets hit by a mack truck, and gets paralyzed, then in prison i hope he gets diabetes, then gets cancer and dies.
that might possibly make up for it.
    possibly

  81. Nancy Ayles on May 20th, 2012 11:41 pm

I just wanted to say that PetCo sells these huge chains with a handle for “strong pullers”! I have explained to them what they are used for, about fighting dogs, about the cruel pain to have these chains around a dogs neck but they still sell them.
I am boycotting them until they stop.
Perhaps an email from Tia to them will help them understand.

  82. sonja m. hedstrom on May 21st, 2012 3:09 pm

OMG!! Poor thing. Thank you Tia and Gang for saving him. I will be sending you a check to help out with Mr. Wilson. I will attach a note that it is to help with his care. I will mail it tomorrow …I promise. sonja

  83. Terri on May 22nd, 2012 8:05 am

I don’t have much but I HAD to sponsor this guy! Wow…I’d like to get my hands (like around his neck) on this sweet guys owner!! Or should I say old owner, I just wish these kind of people could be monitored so they are NEVER allowed to have another pet of any kind!

  84. debbie mitchell on May 23rd, 2012 9:52 pm

Man this sickens me , my name is Debbie Mitchell I live in ky me and my family own a small kennel of American bullies and I must say I’m horrified how sad this is people like that don’t deserve the privilege to own a pet ,then need to be done upon to them what they have conflicted on to the poor helpless animal they affected I feel that man should be chained and treated in the same manor in which Mr.Wilson endured and feel the same pain that he did , I’m a firm believer in an eye for an eye if we as animals lovers united together to enforce stricker laws against these types of inhuman species cause they can’t even be put into a category as a human being and they ain’t worthy enough to be recognized as anything.else and inflicted the same type of cruelty as they do to the animals as there punishment there would be a lot less of this type of behavior going on , the problem is the pentaly isn’t harsh enough nor enforced enough throughout our country , its about time all of society recognizes that these loving animals , eat ,sleep ,love ,feel and breath just as we do and if this was done from one human to another I’m sure the pentaly would surley be recognized and strongly enforced and the the partie inflicting the injury would suffer severe consequences. So why is that ? Pets are people to they are living things just as we are . Tia we live you and yr family and yr workers you are one hell of a woman and u deserve so much in this life and I commend u and respect u so much . Wr don’t have a lot but if there is anything we can offer to help u with please contact me because I know with having a small family owned kennel of my own any little bit helps and I would love to send any thing I can to help you , I wish I could be half the woman you are your the strongest woman I have ever seen , your my idol so please it would be an honor for me to help please contact me by email or by text or by phone 270-505-0862 I would love to help Mr.Wilson in additional to helping you so if he needs something please also let me know I will do all in my power to help . Thank you Tia for who you are and what you do .

  85. Rochelle Fishman on May 23rd, 2012 11:05 pm

You guys are awsome. Mr wilson is so lucky. Someone should put that chain around the owners neck and just give him a bowel of water everyday. I luv dogs a lot more than people sometmes. Give mr. Wilson a hug for me. Ro

Sometimes we start loosing faith in humanity it feels like good against evil in this world. If we all did our part to make this world a better place, the other day I saw a turtle crossing a busy street with people just driving over him amazingly he didn’t get hit so I pulled over put him in my car and took him to a canal by were I live which is Rural so he will be safer, you know what his life matters, I felt such a satisfaction that no material things can provide. I love Pitbulls mine just passed away recently he was 19 years old I had him since i was 18 and I was devastated, he was a son to me RIP Raiden love you.

  91. Brandi Jordan on June 8th, 2012 1:12 pm

Most people admire celebrities or big public figures. They worship them in every way possible, but Tia an her crew are the ones I admire in this crazy world. Such heros….giving up ur own lives for these babies. If there’s anyone on this earth I could be, it would be Tia! I pray Mr. Wilson will find his way into a cozy home soon. :)

i soooooooo wish i could adopt a pit bull from here but we already have 3 dogs :(

  93. Jerrie Butler on June 13th, 2012 8:50 pm

It just makes me sick when I see a dog like Mr Wilson being treated that way. I use to be kind of scare of Pits, until my daughter started having them. And let me tell you they are the kindness most gentle and loving dog ever. If you raise them right. She now has one that she got because she saw a woman throw it out of a moving car. He a Blue Pit, and probably the reason she through him out was because he’s front legs turn-out and he has deformity in his hips. He was just a puppy when it happen. but right now where she lives Pits aren’t aloud unless they were there when they pass the law about banning them. So were kind a in a spot. Cause its my grandson dogs, and he refuse to let him go. His name that is the dog is Razor. He’s really a grat dog. And I wish there was somthing we could do about helping him with his legs. So he wouldn’t have to be in pain. And I wish I could talk my grandson into letting us fine him a forever home with somone that would care for him and love him like he does. You see were kind of hiding him out and if we get caught we will be fine and he will be taken. Do you have any ideas. Anyway please give Mr.Wilson A great Big Hug for me. And I wish I could help but right now I can’t cause were on a fix income were senior and we have 2 of my daughters dogs and 3 of our own. But I’ll pray for all of you cause id the wonderful work you do. Love your show.

  94. wilma arnold on June 19th, 2012 8:58 pm

I live in Houston and I am going to adopt a bully from you as soon as I can get a fence around my home . Poor Mr Wilson , it made me cry when I read his story . I lost my bully after 10 years and I still cry for him ! He wasn’t just a dog but was my companion as well as a part of me . I wish someone would put that same chain on him and stake him out with no human contact . Put him in the hot ass sun we have here in the south with a cardboard box to stay in ( please God let it rain) … I pray for the bullies and can’t wait to meet you at the Expo. I have asked people on Facebook to try and make a donation to your cause because I Love the Bullies .

  95. cara on June 22nd, 2012 2:29 am

Tia, I have said it before and I will say it again…You and yours have earned your place in Heaven and will someday be reunited with all the pits you have taken under your wing..What a wonderful sight that will be…I pray that I am there to see that day…..I am the proud grandma to a wonderful pit mix Betsy, named after my Mom-in-law. We have 2 challanged grandsons and 7 cats and 1 mean till he gets to know you collie mix…our Bets is great with those kids..even when they hurt her( their challanges don’t allow them to see right from wrong all the time. They just strike out) The boys are 6 and 4 and Bets just walks away or starts to kiss them….Pits are wonderful!!!!! another thanks to you for helping those on parole to better thier lives….God Bless you and your crew…wish I could send money but here in FL we are the largest in the unemployment lines….. Someday I will make it to your haven and stay awhile till I pick out my own pit.

Im an animal lover always and 4ever. Tia you are my hero!! My dream has always been 2 run a kennel/rescue shelter for all dogs. All the animals ive come across, feed, helped, treated. Its crazy that the people who treat their pets like this are allowed to have kids! I dont have my shelter yet. Dont have the funds 4 my dreams yet. Someday i prey. Until then i always defend pits that its not the breed its the owners. Ive met terriers more vicious then pits. Its all in how their raised. I love u tia and all who work with u and do what u do. If your ever in ohio u will always have a place 2 stay! If i ever have a chance 2 help i will. Would love 2 come visit and help 4 a few days when i can. Til then i will keep u all in my prayers and hope that all the stupidity of pet owners will have a fast and painful punishment 4 their crimes!!!!!
